How estimates work
Task estimates define how much effort a work item is expected to require. Planyway uses these estimates to calculate scheduled workload and resource utilization.
By default, estimates entered in Planyway aren't synchronized with Jira estimation fields. You can enable synchronization by mapping estimates to supported Jira fields.
Configure estimation mapping
Open your estimation settings and choose the Jira field you want to use. Supported fields include:
Original Estimate
Time Remaining
Story Points
Custom estimate (unsynced from Jira)
Once mapping is configured, Planyway uses the selected Jira estimation data according to the mapping rules.
Important: This configuration applies globally across all projects and users within your domain.
Daily and Total estimation modes
Planyway supports two ways of entering estimates.
Daily Mode
Define how many hours of effort are planned per day. Use this when you want to specify the daily workload directly.
Total Mode
Define the total estimated effort for the work item. Planyway distributes the total across the scheduled period according to your distribution settings.
Auto-adjust task duration
When you drag an estimated work item onto the timeline, Planyway can automatically adjust its duration to match the estimate. This helps you schedule work more quickly while accounting for the planned effort.
